No, I'm not bashing. It's possible I'm "mis-remembering," but I seem to remember a thread not too long ago about the free 90-day subscriptions also going horribly awry and off-topic.
I don't believe in bashing. I also don't believe in hijacking threads for off-topic opinions. Some threads change because of informational tangents -- one line of questions and answers leading to others.
This thread went completely off the rails for reasons other than Avid, editing, or technology of any sort. And in my VERY HUMBLE opinion, no, it was not for a decent reason. I think something was misinterpreted, and could have been cleared by a simple email to the person you felt was out of line.
We -- here in New York and most other places in the U.S. -- now say "stay safe" at the end of conversations and messages instead of "speak to you later" -- and my personal take -- and based on some of the others' reactions, I'm assuming I'm not alone -- is that yours was a very individual reaction to something said that here is, at the worst, innocuous, and at the best, a heartfelt wish, said to anyone regardless of religious or political affiliation.
A simple e-mail to owen would have cleared that up, and not forced the entire list into the fray.
For the record, I consider myself more of a lurker here -- I don't often have information to contribute. I do recognize your name though, and I know I've gotten more than just a little knowledge from what you've offered in the past.
So no, my intent was not to "bash," especially someone I do respect for his knowledge and generosity.
And I also don't believe myself to be any "universal arbiter" capable of deciding what is and is not ok to discuss in any particular forum.
All I'm saying -- my idea was -- to do our research before we go off half-cocked, and save everyone a lot of energy and emotion better spent elsewhere.
I pray we all make it safely to the other side of "the curve" -- both physically, emotionally, and economically.
