Dave may be using an S/VHS Pro Deck that has RS-422, Longitudinal Timecode and VITC – they have the DNR Digital Noise Reducers and TBCs, plus Dolby.
Let me know which driver you need. Snow Leopard drivers still worked with Lion, on System 1,1 MacPros, with Avid MC 5.5.5 and Adrenaline. [screen grab below]
