Subject: Avid QT Ref Export confuses Uncompressed 32bit Floating point as Long Gop?
MacPro mid 2010 upgraded to 12Core 3.33GHz, GTx-680, 24GB Ram, Mac OS 10.12.6, MC 2018.12.3
I have a 4K DCI project 4096_2160 Rec 709 typical of all my 4K projects. Source is Varicam 35 AVC-Intra YUV 10bit transcoded to DNxHRHQX. I had some help on the project and I found a few clips had been consolidated not transcoded so they were still AVC-Intra. I deleted that media and relinked the clips to the HQX transcoded media and consolidated with handles. Everything is fine at that point.
I did my ProResHQ upper track safe color effect as I always do. When I went to export the QT Reference I got an error saying there was long GOP media and a QT Ref could not be exported. I displayed reference clips and nothing was AVC-Intra, which isn't long Gop but I thought it might be the odd man out. The one thing I did see besides HQX media was one matte key .tiff that had been imported as uncompressed 32bit floating point. I deleted it's media and reimported as HQX. After doing that I then rerendered the one effected safe color effect to proresHQ. I was then able to export a QT Reference without issue.
So I don't have time to experiment but I'm curious if Avid was somehow seeing the uncompressed 32bit floating point .tiff that had an alpha channel as long GOP in some sort of weird bug/glitch. That was the only thing I changed after several attempts getting the error. I have no idea why that would be the solution. I didn't restart Avid during this issue so I don't know what else it could be.
Has anyone had any quirky behavior with uncompressed 32 bit floating point DNxHR media. I have never used it and I don't know why someone imported this way but I assume the intention was to have the highest quality video. Or could it be another attempt by the Man trying to hold me down!!! "We don't need your Uncompressed Floating Point!!! Power to HQX. Let's support the compressed media revolution." Oh wait after a weekend on a College campus I fear my radical hippy daze are coming back. ;-)
