Re: [Avid-L2] Resolve timeline audio bit depth

So, the ultimate issue I was having was in relinking in MC.  Using Resolve to make the Avid MXF media and ALE, but relink was failing when it got to the audio.  I was trying Resolve v16 beta 4 for this.  Once I rolled back to v15 everything is fine now.  I don't know what got broken in v16, but it's broke.

Again, I'm clueless (but educated a bit in 'logic'), I have no idea what a Media workspace is…
BUT, if you specify a target output, the specs 'should' be accomodated. (Not sure what kind of MXF you want.)
Did you try MediaInfo and FFmpeg to see if indeed the bitdepth is 32? (32 float is total overkill for a delivery, I suspect VLC is messing things up, what does it say?)

(I just opened a 24 bits BWF, and it says 32 bits bitdepth, although codec info is pcm_s24le…)

So, I think you can sleep on both ears tonite.

My output/export settings specify 24bit audio on the render (PCM).  If I open the resulting audio files (MXF) in VLC they are listed as being 32bit instead of the expected 24bit, as the settings specify.

For the timeline, when I make the Audio Bit Depth column visible in the Media workspace I can see the bit depth for the Poly BWF audio I brought in is 24bit.  But after I sync the audio to picture and make a timeline out of it, the timeline indicates that it's 32bit when I look at it in the Media workspace in Resolve.

And I can't figure out how to make the change to the timeline.

Hi Jay,
I have no clue about timeline audio bit depth, (never saw such a thing, perhaps my version it too old,) but audio render settings are for, well, audio renders. And that implies only effects I presume.
Then, on export, if the target format should have 32 bits audio conform specs, it makes sense that 8 bits are added.

I import my audio and it's 24bit. I sync it. I make a timeline, and the timeline list the audio as 32bit. And I can't figure out how to change that. And when I render and have the audio render settings set to 24bit it ignores it and makes .mxf media that is 32bit. How do I fix this?

Thank you for any help.
