Re: [Avid-L2] Mac or PC

Oooo! Interesting question, but I'd add "market segment" to your data collection.

In my experience in Washington, DC, the answer is Mac, by a wide margin, but I can't say that this is true across market segments, plus Avid does not dominate here.

In my experience, the split flows from who controls the purchasing decisions, creatives or IT. When creatives are in control (dedicated media production) the facility is Mac based, with maybe a couple of PCs. When corporate or government IT is in control (media is subordinate) then the facility is Windows based, with maybe a Mac here or there.

Which means that in Washington, DC there may be far more PC based Avids because there are vast government media installations, but I never see them.

The demise of the classic Mac Pro also tipped the scales pretty hard in recent years.

Here's a question for UK-based editors, whether staff or freelance. Do you mostly encounter Macs or PCs in the facilities you work at? Not 'what do you prefer?' but what do you find when you walk in the door? Thanks.
