I ran across the following comment in an Apple User forum dated April 11/2019:

High Sierra no longer supports CUDA on machines that Apple shipped with NVIDIA hardware. With Security Update 2019-002, Apple effectively killed support for CUDA.

If correct, best avoid that security update.
