Don't know if this will help, but try resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) --

I just had a bunch of stuff get weird on my 17" early 2011 Macbook Pro, including the battery refusing to charge, and the Superdrive not recognizing discs I tried to insert.
I reset the SMC and everything came back.
Not saying this would be a magic bullet for you, but it was for me, and you've got nothing to lose except about a minute of your time.

Unsure what I have, it's thin, some 5 years old I think...
I can't get the back off, in has screws to tiny for my eyes (not sure if
it is torx or something Apple)
On hardware test it will turn off immediately as well. (I see the globe
with 'choose network', and it shuts down.)
