1. You do not need to have matching Nexis/ISIS client manager. In fact, Avid recommends you use the latest supported version for each OS version.
2. A good connection should get you around 90-100 MB/s. This is true of CAT5E or CAT6. That is good enough for 3, maybe 4, streams of DNxHD 145.
3. The client app installer includes an application called "Path Diag". You can try running it and see how good the connection speed is. Or you can just copy a large file back and forth. Use Activity Monitor or Task Manager or the ISIS/Nexis Web GUI to view.
I went ahead an tried Nexis Client 2018.11 and it works too. Using only one ethernet port built into the MacPro I can play an offline sequence that is linked to XDCam50 in a 5 camera multigroup in 10bit green no problem and it's very responsive. The XDcam media was consolidated to the Nexis. I would have thought that would have bogged down my system but a few checks and it plays without stuttering. My AE says when he runs his station with only one ethernet port he gets sluggish and stuttery playback. My main ethernet line is Cat6A and the patchbay and and bay line from the wall are Cat 6. I think the AE bay is Cat 6 or maybe 5E. I don't know if that explains the difference in performance but I am quite impressed how good my bay seems to work with the Nexis. Is it possible the older client software the AE is running 6.0.1.23690 is contributing to his performance issues? He's on OS 10.9.5. I'm still not clear as to why our tech said we should all run the same version of client software. Could that be a bigger concern in the past history of Nexis. I would be our Nexis mainframe is running older software too but so far I'm happy. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I was leery of getting into the 2018 versions given I'm running Avid 8_9_4. Perhaps that's not an issue. Does anyone think it would be bad to try the latest version? It seems to be working but I could test the latest version. One curiosity was when I installed the older Nexis Client it required a restart, that seems logical, and it required a restart after uninstalling it. But when I installed the 7.9.0.9 Nexis Client it didn't prompt for a restart after running the installer. I restarted any way just out of caution. Is there something in the new Mac OS's or Nexis Client software that no longer requires a restart after instillation?
