This allows me to see the 4K slightly letterboxed on the LG monitor in 4K while still seeing the HD downconvert on my scope and ref monitor. Given my projects are Rec 709 this is fine.I'm testing out a similar workflow with Resolve. My approach is to leave the timeline setting to 4096x2160 so the color correction etc... is utilizing the full 4K image data. Set Video monitoring to 4096x216. SDI to single or dual link. Then in Image scaling output leave it set to match timeline settings. I then get a down convert on spigots 3 and 4. I'm testing with an older Sony PVM 2541. The difference I notice is the down convert does not have the slight letter box that it should have to show the entire 4096x2160 image. It looks like it's cropped. Changing settings in the video desktop software doesn't seem to make a difference nor does changing the options on image scaling in Resolve. Am I missing something obvious? At work I have a PVM-250A which seems to understand the 2K signal that comes out of spigots 3 and 4 when the project 4096x2160 and displays with a little letter boxing. If I leave Resolve timeline settings at 4096x2160 and set video output to HD I get the slight letterbox but I think this will also make the HDMI output HD. I don't have my 4K monitor at home to check this out right now.Anybody played around with this? I'm trying to wrap my head around Resolve's processing hierarchy to really understand what timeline, monitor out and imag e scaling are really doing to the monitor feed and how them may effect Resolve internal processing and ultimately how they interact with file exports.John Moore Barking Trout Productions Studio City, CA bigfish@pacbell.net
