Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Understanding Full Range vs Legal and Scaling of ProRes4444 in Adobe

I'm basing the comparison primarily on a traditional import with no scaling selected.  I have made sure with the ama linked clips there are no color adapters in source settings.  Even with the color bars jpeg I see the difference in levels only in that case the animation codec is right and the prores 444 is low.  Perhaps there could be some involvement of the QT engine with a traditional import but if that were causing the issue then I should see proper levels on ama linking and incorrect levels with a traditional import.  I see the same results whether I traditional import with no scaling or ama link.

It has become a moot point because we found it will be okay to deliver ProRes 4444 keyable graphics but I would sure like to understand what is really going on here.

Yeah what Pat said. If I remember correctly, MC always reads Animation codec QTs as needing some adapter - and also sometimes throws that on 444 files as well. I've seen 444 files come in where they're legal on the bottom and over on the top - some weirdo interpretation of values. Animation is RGB and always needs an adjustment when linking in a YUV project. Also of note: Animation codec is SO OLD and I bet is on its way to pasture. Don't trust any default reading by any application for it. If you are slightly off one way or the other, it is just as easy to chalk up to the legacy codec interpretation.

Did you check the source setting when ama linking? And the colour adapter? MC may have added a colour adapter full range to video. Only if no colour adapters are showing is the AMA result bypassed.
