Re: [Avid-L2] Quicktime and Windows 10

I thought the issue with QuickTime for Windows was about security in the web browser plug-in. The last QT-Win version (7.7.9) doesn't even install that plug-in and, in fact, removes it if you're installing over an older version of QT.

As useful as QT has been, and with so many installations still using it, putting it onto your systems will probably help and should actually be harmless. It's just a matter of educating the IT department. As for its necessity with MC, I don't actually use MC as much as i used to, so please rely on other commenters for that.

Here's the QT-Win download: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US

I did a recent Win 10 installation with 8.9.4 and QT is still needed.

Hi Matthew,

What version of Media Composer are you running?

I'm aware that in later releases Avid has reduced (but not totally eliminated, AFIK) dependencies on QT. Possibly an update alone will solve the issue?

Cheers,
Benjamin

To Avid Group,
After years of being a lurker and learning all sorts of things Media Composer. I thank you all!!

So I have a problem at the university where I am teaching. The IT department has upgraded us to Windows 10 and has refused to install quicktime
Since it is not supported any  longer for security updates by apple.
Using Media Composer  We cannot link to media that used quicktime in the  codec.
Some material from our tricaster is not recognized at all and must be transcoded thru Adobe Media Encoder to mxf files.

We can only export as mxf files.

Any suggestions?
