Will US TV switch from 29.97 to 30?
The obvious future is 60/59.94p (in the US). The path to abandoning the fractional rates would be to favor 60fps over 59.94, but is this realistic? Given what I'm reading here, the only reason for 59.94p is backward compatibility with 29.97, not forward compatibility with high frame rate distribution.
Will modern distribution systems allow us to cut that legacy rate or will distributors insist on 59.94 just to maintain compatibility with existing technology chains?
Will it be acceptable to master at 60fps and convert or playout at 29.97 in realtime?
Is this way off-topic? ;)
Cheers,
tod
