[Avid-L2] Re: Bad Avid Issues in Effects mode on Mac MC 8.6.4?

After many uninstalls etc... I've upgraded to MC 8.8.5 and the problem still exists.  It's as if I am somehow confusing the interface when I hold down CMD(apple) while moving the wacom pen over to the effect window to tap it.  If I move real slow it works allowing me to hit apple + A and it selects any paint objects but if I'm dragging over to the effects window and hold down the CMD prior to tapping the cursor turns to magnifying glass, which makes sense but then when I hit A it stalls and I get the beachball and have to force quit.

It also may be playing into the shortcut keys I have to switch modes because often times the screens are still refreshing as I'm pening over to the effects window and hitting cmd along the way as a matter of habit.  I really can't pin point at exactly what part of the steps the lock out happens.  This is beyond vexing.  I'm going to stick with 8.5.3 for now but anything 8.6.4 and above is exhibiting this behavior.  I skipped 8.7.X and 8.9 in my tests.

I did try 8.6.5 but the wacom which is very old just didn't function at all.  Not even the side click button worked so I was corrrect to stay at 8.6.4.

If this is an indication of the quirky kinks I will be facing in newer versions of Avid I am not looking forward to this big bend over of intermittent issues.

At my main work I recently upgraded from MC 8.5.3 to MC 8.6.4.  I know it's an older version but we are limited to Mac OS 10.9.5 due to legacy san infrastructure.

I choose 8.6.4 because it supposedly fixes the LUT Scaling issue that existed 8.5.X and up to 8.6.2 IIRC.

System is Mac Pro mid 2010 upgraded to 12 core 3.33GH 64Ggs of ram.

Everything worked fine but all I was doing was consoldating some HD media with LUTs not baked in.  I color corrected the show no problem but when I started to use Paint Effect to blur out tally lights etc... everything went south.

Many versions back I found that in effects mode I could no longer use Apple(cmd) + A in Paint effect to select all the shapes in an effect.  This was a big issue for me as I use this all the time.  I've been told that was fixed and it works fine in 8.5.3 but in 8.6.4 it hangs the system but not all the time.

I figured it was my user settings so I for the first time, wait for it, rebuilt my settings from scratch.  It was a pain and I learned how much I'd forgotten but that didn't fix the problem.  I trashed MC states, reinstalled 8.6.4 from my existing .dmg.

Upon restarts the effect will work and I bounce around workspaces etc... and it works then bang it hangs.  I can drag accross the screen and it will select the shapes but that doesn't always work.  And I found if I drew an extra shape in testing I could then not delete it.  A restart or two and I could.  I tried narrowing it down to timeline view changes or keyboard settings changes or workspace changes but nothing keeps if from occurring.  I tried with my old user settings and new ones and the problem persisted.  I finally went back to my 8.5.3 startup drive and after adding the proper scaler to the LUTs the video levels match and I can work.

Has anybody seen this?  I did a google but nothing leapt out at me.  I am redownloading 8.6.4 to reinstall tomorrow to see if that fixes it but this is a real cluster flop and I've lost an entire afternoon trouble shooting.  If 8.6.4 doesn't work tomorrow I will try 8.6.5 and hope my wacom doesn't crap out.  This is a real frustration.  Between having to force quit and remember where things are in the command palette and new menu structures I am about to blow a gasket.  I know I should rebuild my settings but that doesn't seem to be the cause.  Very annoying and keeping from playing with the puppy.

I have a similar setup at home and I'm going to try that system to see if the problem persists there.  I'm on Sierra at home but same Avid version.
