Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Feature request

I gotta say - yes, the advances Premiere and Resolve have made over the past few years are astonishing.

AND YET

Media Composer is a better straight up editor. Tell me how solid any of these other apps feel to you in comparison? Everything I try in Premiere feels so much looser than editing in Media Composer. I feel like I'm about to lose my edge on keeping up with these things because I can not stand the 'feel' of them. Premiere feels like an amateur editor wrapped in a super feature powered app. And don't get me started on trying to do any serious onlining in Premiere. Ganging monitors and switching back and forth between source and record to match things is preposterously terrible - in ANY app besides Media Composer. Trying to determine effects usage in an offline to bring them into an online is cumbersome and dangerously inept compared to MC. Audio! It is so terrible I can't imagine anyone is doing any serious (show/feature) finishing in Premiere. The toolset there is limiting (I should say handcuffing) and primitive in comparison.

Sorry for the rant. I love a lot about what these apps are doing and trying to do. Premiere is about to roll out the ability to have multiple projects open, like the old FCP. That alone is a huge feature worthy of keeping faith that they're working on doing the right thing. But in all seriousness, if you want to talk about professional editorial finishing tools, nothing touches Media Composer.

I've heard of plenty of problems with Resolve 14 from experienced users.  I can't speak first hand as I'm on Resolve 12.5 for now.  I set my Avid to auto Save every 3 minutes and it never takes me a minute to wait.  Even in 4K.  In the past I've had bins that would take a long time to save but hasn't been that time consuming.  I feel your pain and it's why I auto save often and still let it save after every render.

I could put up with the regular crashes if Media Composer had background save. Resolve added automatic constant background saving in this version. It's just always saving, never interrupts what you're doing. Just saying.

I used to love cutting on media composer, but there's nothing more frustrating than when you're 'in the zone,' completely oblivious to your hardware, and media composer just decides to take a break. Uhg. Don't blame my install, don't blame my version, don't blame the era of computer I'm using, don't blame my autosave duration (who wants to wait a full minute for saving every time autosave comes on?) We should no longer need a work around for this issue. This is just not a modern problem.

Rant over. I'll now spend 15 minutes redoing the edits I made 20 minutes ago.
