AJA is a great company but now that Avid has saddled itself to BM for the DNxIO or DNxIQ they are more likely to play nice. For the record I have had more quirks when using 3rd party IO even the Avid branded DNxIO series act like 3rd party when it comes to quirks. No deal breakers but some really strange user setting related issues among other annoyances like safe color limit effect levels.
AJA makes better gear but if it's Avid branded then they are more likely to maintain compatibility down the line of endless version and OS changes.

i don't know the official answer... but we have nitris dx attached to both trashcans and older mac pros... and i actually think the older macs work smoother and we have much less problems.
we NEVER input or output to tape anymore... so I can't see any justification to get Avid hardware anymore
i just need a decent card to power my broadcast monitor in SDI... and my client monitor HDMI... and the ability to cross-convert resolution and frame rate.
I'm thinking AJA is the way to go... had really good experience with them.
