[Avid-L2] Apples To Apples

Semi OT…

Friend of mine is replacing his 2009 MacBook that currently has a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M graphics card with a new MacBook that has a 7th Gen Intel Core m3 1.2 GHz Processor, 8GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 memory, and an Intel HD Graphics 615 card.

NOW… the question is… as he doesn't do a lot of high intensity work on these machines (such as editing), what kind of differences in overall performance is he likely to see in the new 2017 machine vs. the older 2009 machine — even though the raw numbers would seem to be lesser in the new machine?

This is not my forte' so forgive my naivete', but is it reasonable to think that due to advances in processor technology, etc., that the new MacBook would outperform the older 2009 machine?

Insights welcome.

Thanks,

DD
