If someone is recording 8-bit and shooting Log, they're shooting themselves in the foot. There's not nearly enough latitude in 8-bit even for linear.

Yes in the grade you can drag back up detail but at 8 bit that is stretching quantisation steps that are already struggling in a linear recording (well a gamna curve) its later when it tgen gets transcoded. Re encoded tgat the quality issues become evident. As QC persin I see it a lot. Banding and worse.
