Re: [Avid-L2] Sony A7_2 MP4 media in AVCHD with XAVC Variable Bit Rate Media?

Going through the Catalyst Browser Help File I see it supports Avid DNXHD but it appears that is only as a source as I see no Transcode Settings for DNXHD MXF.  I assume this means I can browse DNXHD media but it doesn't allow me to transcode to it.  Am I missing something here?

I ended up using Adobe Media Encoder because I had built a preset a while back when we got similar footage.  I did download the Catalyst Browser and it confirms it's XAVCS format.  Hence the inability to ama to it.

The thing with Adobe Media Encoder is I can export OP1A mxf but not OPAtome mxf.  Am I missing that option?  I'm working with AME CC 2015 Mac OS 10.9.5.  I can however ama to the resulting files and transcode or consolidate.  I had to transcode because I needed to bake in the Sony S3 Log Cine to Rec 709 because they might not be offlining with an Avid that supports LUTs.

I've started playing with the Catalyst Browser and it seems to know the S3Log setting the camera had.  It can convert to Rec 709 but it looks a bit more blown out than what I see from my AME to Avid and adding the Avid Sony S3 Lut to Rec 709.  I'm going to try a few clips in various formats of export.  I don't see an Avid MXF choice from the Catalyst am I missing that I am going to try AVC Intra and prores for starters.

Get a copy of Catalyst Browse (free on Sony website) - point it at the footage folder and it will tell you exactly what type it is.

What version of MC is your AE working in? Could this be a relative to the same bug infecting the Canon XAVCS footage in the most recent version of Composer?

Our AE is having problems with some footage from a Sony A7_2 camera.  I'm wondering if it is XAVCS.  I don't know how to check for that but the files will play in QT 10 player but not in QT 7.  In QT Player 10 the info says AVC coding.  Here it the info provided by Media Info.  Can anyone point to any of this data that would indicate XAVCS.  Is the fact that it is variable bit rate and indication it is XAVCS?
