The last two or three versions of MC have a known bug specific to Canon XF AVC intra files. You're experiencing the exact behavior associated with this bug. I had to back-rev to 8.7 to get back stable performance with this material. As discussed in a recent thread, Avid says the fix will be pushed in the next update.
