Re: [Avid-L2] Kona 3 Dead?

I just replaced my Kona 3 with a Blackmagic Decklink for that reason. The Kona 3 was not usable with Adobe Premiere in 10.11, and Premiere can't be upgraded in 10.10. Had to make a choice.

As for my choice of a Decklink, that was not statement of loyalty. The budget did not allow for a Kona 3G. I have been extremely happy with the Kona 3 and AJA for many, many years, cutting with Avid, Final Cut, and Premiere.

The Decklink setup is working, but is not fully functional or entirely stable. I have not been able to locate the causes of the limitations or the instability, and they may not be entirely Blackmagics fault. We'll see.

I shouldn't complain too much - even the firmware on the spare IO Express was 4 years out of date, so I probably got my money's worth out of that thing, too. Also scored a great craigslist deal on HP Dreamcolor monitors to replace my dead 12-year-old Cinema Display.

And cleaned the fish pond!

(Hmmm… I wonder if the old Cinema Displays could make some kind of reef?)
