In the past before Avid supported LUTs I used Resolve to take Arri LogC material and add the Resolve Arri LogC to Rec 709 to create Avid media. I set it up to base the tape name on the file name and that worked fine with Avid's typical robust relinking by tape and time code.
Now with my 4K material I've been using Avid ama to link to camera original AVC-Intra from Panasonic Varicam 35. I know with this workflow I can create Avid media that carries the LUT metadata I've assigned and I can relink back to the camera originals if I have to. A DIT with a fast rig is offering to do the processing in the field. We are going to do some tests but I'm curious if in Resolve it assigns tape names then in the traditional Avid behavior I would not be able to link back to the ama'd camera originals as having a tape name would eliminate the src file path info. I know we could ama link and manually add the appropriate tape names and work that way but is there a way to process in Resolve that would allow a sequence cut with the Resolve processed Avid media to relink to ama'd camera originals without requiring tape name addition.
If I don't check "assist using reel numbers" in Resolve would it create avid media that would carry the metadata that would allow a later relink to ama camera originals?
The DIT is going to make some test clips so we can test possible workflows. Even though his rig is faster than ours we have extra machines and manpower in house so I don't really see a gain for this but I'm willing to stay open minded. Given our in house ama workflow has been working without issue I'm reticent to change our procedure. In the past we have had mixed results with media processed in the field. Sometimes we would get offline and online media that had differing reel numbers etc... Clearly that was operator error which is why we decided to just do things in house. Faster processing isn't that big a deal when we can leave systems cranking overnight etc...
Anybody processing in Resolve and then later ama linking to camera originals in Avid?
