[Avid-L2] Hard Drive repair & Data Recovery

Well, I finally did it -- I dropped my laptop.

From 2 1/2 feet, onto a carpeted floor -- no damage to the case or the screen, but the hard drive is hosed.  It spins but won't mount.

Both of my repair guys paint a pessimistic picture regarding the data recovery, with costs ranging between $1000-3000, but a Google search seemed to turn up places that all boast cheap rates and 90%+ success rates -- places with clean rooms in NYC like Secure Data Recovery, Fields Data Recovery and Proven Data Recovery.

Does anyone have any experience with these places, or any like them, and have one to recommend?

We're talking about a 750 gb hard drive -- 2 Mac partitions and an ExFat partition -- with half of my freelance life on it...

(Yeah, we'll talk about proper back-up procedure some other time...)

Thanks all!
