The material is being shot for a live show in the US so I really don't find it arrogant to ask that something be shot with the final product delivery in mind. The fact that they will also use the material locally for their own purposes doesn't trump the live show IMHO. I honestly don't know who is in control but I think they are being paid to shoot for our show but also want to use it in their neck of the woods. Flip a coin.
As far as them doing it I'm thinking in Avid land universal mastering where from 23.076 you can output to 25 cleanly with a little speed up but the artifacts induced in going 25 back to 23.976 or up to 59.04 or way more problematic than Avid universal mastering feature would do. Of course I don't know what their post work flow is.
I don't take 25 to 23.976 in my normal work so I'm not versed in slowing down but if I did just use Avid motion adapters after ingesting to a 25 fps project won't there be frame skips along the way that will be noticeable?
Sounds like the newer features of ingesting to the project frame rate might be the way to go. Akin to the console command of ignoring QT frame rate. I haven't used this feature yet. If I ama 25 fps material in a 23.976 project and set it to transcode to the project frame rate what happens to the audio? Does it get pitched down the 4% or so during the transcoding?

I would think the slight speed up would be much less problematic than me having to take 25Fps back into a 23.976 or 59.94 project in Avid. 25Fps into 59.94 would seem to be asking for frame jumps/skips and 25Fps to 23.976 is going to have to drop a frame every second which would also be steppy. Perhaps not as bad 29.97i back to 23.976P but still I would think it would be jumpy. If they do shoot 25 depending on the material is it okay to let Avid add motion adapters after capturing in a 25Fps project? Or should we plan on converting the material before bringing it into Avid? I assume they will be shooting 25P which I think will be less problematic than interlace material.Any suggestions welcome but I really think the UK folks should shoot 23.976. Would that frame rate cause them undo issues with light flicker? TIAJohn Moore Barking Trout Productions Studio City, CA bigfish@...
