Heard that upon upgrading to Avid 8.7 and the appropriate Mac OS my wife's Wacom Intuos 3 tablet started misbehaving. Another editor had an Intuos 4 or 4Pro and didn't seem to have the same issues at the time. I called wacom directly and they sent me the appropriate driver which wasn't available on the web site according to the support person. That seemed to fix the issue at the time but now I'm being told the system has been getting quirkier and quirkier. I'm not to specific on the issues but it sounds like things are doubling up commands and weirdness when navigating the timeline. My wife has been told this is a known Avid bug.
In the distant past I've had to back rev wacom drivers to get my older tablet to work. I'm only running systems up to MC 8.5.3 right now with OS 10.9.5. I just moved one startup drive on my home system to 10.10.5 and I did have to reinstall a new wacom driver for my Intuous 4 tablet. So far that seems to work okay.
Can anyone elaborate on the known issues with wacom tablets with Avid 8.7.x I googled but am only finding things related to Avid 6.5. I'm wondering if there are things with the newer mac OS required for Avid 8.7 that would interact with the wacom tablet driver. I recall PC's had some pen/tablet behavior settings in windows that needed to be turned of for more stable wacom performance but I've been mac for so long now I don't recall the specifics. Are there new things in the Mac OS system preferences like the track pad settings that could be creating conflicts or strange response behavior?
One thing that stands out is I'm being told that after installing the new wacom driver things worked but have progressively gotten worse. I don't really understand how things would progressively get worse. To me they would either work or not. Perhaps it's just as the tablet gets used more there is more chance to stumble onto actions that create the issue. I don't see how there would be some sort of self learning behavior in regard to a wacom tablet that would increasingly deteriorate performance.
It sounds like it's a known Avid bug but I'm just surprised I haven't seen any comments on the L2 regarding the issue. Any insight appreciated.
P.S. I found the phone line "mywacom" very helpful. Now that I know they can get me legacy drivers in a few minutes I will use it more and more. They no longer list all the legacy stuff on the website but will provide it if you call in. Helpful but seems like a subtle marketing scheme to frustrate users into buying newer products that work with the current drivers on the site. That would never happen in business would it?
