Following up on this thread regarding older Host Bus Adapter Cards from a circa 2009 NitrisDX Purchase. I'm assuming as Dom pointed out in this thread originally that the older HBA card is probably of the passive V1 variety.
If I were to just shot gun this and plug my DNxIO into this older HBA is there any chance of damage to any of the components or is it just a matter of no communications?
I do own a spare HBA card that came with the DNxIO so I can swap out the older card but I'm also concerned if the newer Active V2 or V3 card that I have will still talk to the older Nitris DX unit at work.
On my home system the HBA for my NitrisDX that I purchased in 2012 works with my DNxIO. Does this mean that if I put my spare HBA into my work computer it will still work with the 2009 NitrisDX. Basically I'm asking if the newer PCIE HBA cards are backward compatible.

I'm going to check the model number on the HBA or is it HIB at work. I would guess given it came from 2009 era it will be an older HIB that is either passive of active Ver. 1. Is there any harm in just plugging it in to see if it works. Would the older HIBs somehow damage the DNxIO? Also if the work HIB is the older model if we get a new one compatible with the DNxIO would it still work with the older NitrisDX bob. I would like to have the ability to just switch the PCI3 cable between IO boxes in case I need universal mastering and any other feature that I might lose with the DNxIO.

However, the manual for the BM version just says:
"You can either purchase the UltraStudio 4K Extreme PCIe Cable Kit or you can use 'off the shelf' cards and cables from other manufacturers. PCIe is a universal standard for computer expansion cards so any adapter cards will work with UltraStudio 4K Extreme. To install a PCIe adapter card:"
