I think that's what I've seem someone do once but how would that be applied if I'm copying over and entire drive that came from the field. I'm not really clear as to how the checksum is demonstrated to the network. How do we deliver proof of the check sum process. This is where my lack of familiarity with the process is probably making it seem more daunting than it really is.

Why not use the built-in checksum in the terminal? It's good enough for Deluxe, should be fine if that's all you need and it's free and built in to every Mac. Open terminal, type MD5 and hit the spacebar. Now drag your file you need to check to the terminal and hit return. You'll end up with an md5 checksum.

In practice if we have a drive from the field with all the camera masters and audio master files how does that get processed with a check sum? Is it possible to just drop the source drive into the source column and have the software copy the whole drive or do root level folders have to be choosen.
I've done copies with Carbon Copy Cloner of system complete system drives but if we copy the entire field drive how does one access the check sum data. Is it listed as a global parameter or for individual folders or files. I must be overthinking this but it would seem a check sum would have to be run on each file. How time consuming is this? I've heard there are differing degrees of scrutiny to the process and one DIT said he only had time to do a basic version of check sum as there wasn't enough time to do a more thorough version.
I assume this is going to become a more common requirement in the future so I hope we can find a regular routine for this. It looks like our Network Delivery will be in the order of 20TB total. Copying that alone will be a time suck and now a check sum on top oh boy!!!!

Part of a network delivery is all kinds of archival masters in DPX so the files are huge. They also request a check sum. I understand just the basics that a check sum will assure the data was copied correctly. I know the DITs have used Silverlight software to provide us with the field media and that software offers check sum type stuff and other things.
Can anyone suggest a mac compatible Check Sum software that doesn't take a rocket scientist to set up? I have seen a friend go to the mac terminal and run a check sum there where he could confirm a .mov file was identical to the original even if the file name had been changed. I think the network wants something more sophisticated than that.
Having never dealt with this I am just starting to research our options. Any experience in this area will be appreciated.
