To the best of my knowledge, that's indeed true for Avid's codecs and for Apple ProRes. On the latter, the flag often kicks in by itself in QT player, regardless of MC's setting. Watch the same clip in VLC and you'll see a difference.
Regardless, same-as-source remains same-as-source, save for the playback level flag (which is not respected by all players).
