[Avid-L2] drive reconfig - have mediafile "rules" changed?

I'm migrating legacy Avid projects/media from ten 500gig (JBOD raid) drives to some big drives in the range of 4TB. When the original system was configured 10 years ago there were certain media file rules / parameters and I'm wondering if anything has changed? (I'm using a fairly new Mac OS 10.9.5)

Like what if the max # of omf (yes omf) files in a folder? Do Avid Medaifiles (mxf) & OMF folders still have to be at the root level of a volume? Or can many be nested somehow on one drive? (btw I own MediaMover to help impose order on things.)

Do people still partition they way they used to to maintain efficiencies re. small files and block sizes on big drives?

If there are good resources or discussions out there, I'm all ears.

Best,

Paul
