Re: [Avid-L2] Which Trashcan?

Curtis,

I have had a MP trashcan for over 2 years.  Based on my research at the time, I went for 8 cores, AMD700 GPUs and 32 GB of RAM.  This seems to be the price/performance sweet spot for long form editorial and finishing.  Using AME encoding MP4s, transcoding proxies, etc is extremely fast.

In my experience, Premiere Pro is better optimized than Media Composer for playback or scrubbing of Red Raw, XAVC-I or other 4K files.  But Avid still works well.

I sometimes like using clip frames in the timeline, but with Avid I avoid those now as zooming the timeline and redrawing those causes the Avid to get sluggish.

But overall, very happy with this config.

So when the boss thinks he's got a good situation for buying a new MacPro trashcan, he asks about configuration.
For Media Composer and Adobe CC, where is the money best spent in cores, RAM and graphics?
It'll connect to our Isis 5k. Mainly working in HD, but lots more 4K is in our future.
