Avid doesn't utilize Open CL on the GPU to the extent that Adobe does (nothing comparable to the Mercury Engine in Avid)....so it's not going to be one-size-fits-all here. With Avid, more cores help, but with Adobe it's mostly GPU. My feeling is to go for the better GPU. The performance gains with more cores in Avid is smaller than the bump in performance you get on Adobe with a better GPU. I don't think Avid does a great job of leveraging the power of multiple cores, so throwing a lot of added CPU power at it may not be all that noticeable in many operations...however, using a beefy GPU makes Premiere sing. The difference is pretty substantial.
