Re: [Avid-L2] Script Sync

the op does not have a license for script sync, hence my suggestion to go back to v5 in order to be able to use it, as it was included and enabled.
And I think he assumes from Greg's comment that going back to v7 will achieve the same result. Which it won't.

I am confused here.  Syncing sound to script/transcript is available up to Ver. 7.  At ver. 5 it became a paid option but those previous owners of Avid were given a free license on Ver. 5.  At 5.5 there was no longer a free lunch for script sync.  Despite the reason for removal of all Avid versions prior to Ver. 5.5 as being a Java something or other change or license issue I've always been of the opinion is it was based on the fact that script sync could be used for free on the previous versions.  We still have a Ver. 4 system that makes perfectly compatible to later Avids script sync bins, or whatever the proper term is for the script sync.  Don't know if Ver. 8 is still compatible with that script sync but I think it is.

What would this full feature be?

Script based editing is still in media composer- the automatic syncing is what is gone.  So you only need the script sync for an hour or two, probably, to sync sound to script- unless you're doing dailies.

We keep one system in 7.x exactly for this purpose- if you don't find a loaner/rental license, you're welcome to come by and use our assistant station for a very nominal fee.  We're in Culver City.  Obviously that might not be practical on a daily basis.  I'm sure there's also a way to do it with proxy/ultra-low-res media, too- as in, easily emailed-  just haven't thought that workflow through.

Hi All,

I am currently running Avid 8 on mac.  I have a job coming up this week that will require script sync.  I understand the two don't work togeather.
Does anyone know how to get a script sync Lic? or is someone interested in selling or renting me an older version of avid media composer with script sync?  Any suggestions would be great.
