If you really want to edit native (and I xcompletely understand why you'd want to) then the first thing I'd think about is using Premiere Pro.
AMA has improved but still is not consistently strong in terms of playback.
You'll also want fast storage. This can be SSD if you aren't pulling from multiple sources at the same time but a raid will be better.
As others have mentioned, AVCI is cpu intensive, so that may be a bottleneck.
