I use Squarespace for my website. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure out their funky block system and the user interface, it's pretty simple to update and maintain. As far as rights are concerned for your demo reel, my attitude is this: if it exists on the web by the copyright owner, the rights have already been cleared for promotional use. What you are essentially doing is promoting their work, with the proviso "I helped build it" as long as you don't alter the segment you are using (like putting new music in, adding different pictures, etc). This is why you will see feature trailers all over the web, for example, because they are precleared for promotional use, and basically have no licensing fees. So, on my website, I will embed a link under a still frame or title card of the program I worked on (there are methods for cuing up to a particular start time of the clip, and one to limit its length). Now the danger here, of course, is that you have no control over the link being moved or pulled by the legitimate poster, so you need to check your links on a regular basis. Secondly, it takes a bit of footwork to collect the links you need, as Squarespace will only accept properly formatted Inbeds from YouTube and Vimeo only. I am not a lawyer, but I worked at Viacom earlier in my career running Showtime's on air promo dept (pre-Internet), and this was the guidance I was given by their legal dept at the time. We were allowed to chop things up, however, since it was part of the licensing/exhibition deal with the respective rights holders.

So I need to update my website and most likely will use Wordpress (open to other suggestions). Just wondering what people are doing for online demo reels that might have copyrighted music, photos or video in the segment. Its it alright to post on Vimeo, YouTube ect.. if you have it titled demo reel. Or it still a breach of copyright?
