Re: [Avid-L2] dongle vs online reg

Pete,
I vastly prefer the hardware licensing to software. I only have 2 software licenses on laptops where there is limited USB connection (yes, apple... why can't we have more ports?) the rest are dongles, and I like that setup better.

I'm biased because using the dongles allows me to have one master image of Media Composer, and know that all the machines will be licensed to run as long as their dongles are connected. I actually wish I had that same flexibility with Adobe's CC software, rather than having to assign an individual email address to each machine, and install individually. However, griping about adobe is off topic - so ignore that.

The other time dongles come in handy is if a hard drive dies, or something deep in hardware dies and gets replaced - some of the software licenses I use INSIST that it is no longer the same machine. Dongles keep this from happening. I don't have to call a company and speak to someone who can reset something on their server in order to run the software again. Which, reminds me, thank heavens for Marianna Montague.

Hello L-ers,

Debating whether to switch my last dongled system to online reg. I hate to give up the dongle, but not sure it's worth the extra hassle. What's current thinking on pros/cons?

Thanks,
