You should be able to delete locked items in Mac OS by option-dragging them to the trash, and/or option-Empty-Trash. If you still can't, then it's at the OS level and it's likely thinking that these files are owned elsewhere or "open" (being written to or modified).

This is really frustrating.  I am tracking down these MXF files but they all have locks on the icons.  I get info, unlock and apply to enclosed items but the locks stay on the icons.   What the heck?   I need to delete media.  Why are the files locked?  I went into each bin and selected all and right clicked "unlock bin items"and no change. Any suggestions would really help.

Im trying to make space by deleting media files form a large project. But when select in media tool and try to delete I see "File 00321U00.MXF is locked. I hit OK and it all stops so I can't delete.

How do these files get locked and how do I get them unlocked. On Mac os 10.8.5.
