There are only a couple options for displaying clip text that is different for different tracks in the timeline. I think mediafilenames would be one, and EDL Comments would be another (but the Comments option only attaches to sequences, not source clips.)
I imagine one way to tackle this is by adding a tag to the head of the .mxf file associated with each audio track?
I've never tried changing mediafile names in the MXF folders. Does it just lead to a painless re-indexing, I wonder, or does it create horrible problems somewhere down the line? I've always thought the important thing was that you never have a duplicate .mxf filename, and in the olden days the OS maximum filename length was fairly short, so you wouldn't want to mess with them. So if you just insert a short tag at the start of the filename, it should remain unique, and cause no problems, perhaps?
If you generally work from sequences as your sources (ie. assemblies, selects reels) then I could imagine using the 'Add Comments' feature manually, supposing that for any given scene, the mic assignment doesn't change. You could go into your assembly sequence, select all the clips on A2, and 'Add Comments' to label them all as e.g. LAV1 in one fell swoop. Label the other tracks similarly. Then display 'Comments' from the Clip Text sub-menu. Cutting a chunk from the assembly to a new sequence seems to preserve the comment. Of course, if you match back to the source clip, and cut the clip directly into a sequence, it will no longer have the Comment.
Interesting to think about...

Well, the header says it all, but again:
Who of you would like to see the TRK info in the timeline?
(read, you can see 'boom', 'lav' or whatever the sound guy entered on the
clips in your timeline, not only in the bin info.)
I think I have a way to make this possible, but looking for some sponsors to
work it out.
(on no cure-no pay basis of course...)
