Re: [Avid-L2] Closed Captioning Track in QT .mov Extracting and Reinserting?

Without doing a Save As and re-render of the QT you run the issue of it not being a self-contained QT file.  It will be dependent on the file that has the CC track in it along with the QT.  If they want it to a full self-contained QT file you will need to select Save As and choose Self-Contained and let the file re-render.

On a series I'm doing we are all file based delivery.  A facility uses MacCaption to insert a Closed Captioning track onto our file.  We give them a file from the captioning service and they use mac caption to mac it into what I see as a Closed Caption Track on the resulting file.  They do not re bake the file they just insert the closed caption track.  When they re bake the file there are issues at the network.

When we get QC notes back from the network usually there is no caption fixes.  I have successfully extracted the closed caption track and then inserted it into my new QC fixed file that is of identical length to the first file.  Once I've re inserted the caption track I can turn on show closed captioning under the view menu and voila I see the captions appearing properly with positioning and everything.  The facility charges half price to reinsert the closed captioning but I see no need to pay that given I can reuse the existing track.  Am I missing something here that would make my reinsertion of the closed caption track using QT Pro no acceptable?  If I see what looks correct in QT Pro 7 is that confirmation that the track is correct for the rest of the food chain?
