Re: [Avid-L2] Re: I smell smoke is there a Unity monitor for thermal issues?

Oh yes I had lots of strands of Fish Lights strewn about the bays.  In fact the were "Broadcast Quality" fish lights.  All my trout had perfect SCH.

Memories of Matchframe.

I met Troll years before matchframe, in the 80's to buy an Imsai 8080 computer from him, out of The Recycler. (The computer Matthew Broderick used in War Games to hack into NORAD).  What ever happened to Troll?

I think Derek is at Quantel or AVID these days.

Remember having to clean your lists on the Turbo Trace computer by the kitchen?  Guess someone thought "cleaning" your list belonged in the kitchen.

And let's not forget the plastic Flamingo in John's bay. Were there plastic fish there too?

Mr. Steve,
I spent a lot of time in that bay at Matchframe.  I think what you suffered from is the chronic "Art" build up I would leave in the edit computer after a long session.  Between "Leaving the Funny on the floor"  and building up "Art" on the CPU motherboard it's a wonder how I got anything onto tape?  ;-)

Reminds me of a night many years ago at MatchFrame.  I was working in one of the GVG141 bays and the client asked if I smelled smoke.  I kind of did, but we checked around and couldn't find the source.  Went back to work and about 30 seconds later, my CRT started to flicker, then went blank.  I turned around to the racks (which were built into the raised counters behind me) and literally saw sparks coming out of the 141 CPU.  The motherboard had caught fire.  So much fun to get on the PA and say "Derek (chief engineer), could you please come to Bay 2?  And bring a fire extinguisher."
We thought the show was lost, but later, Troll was able to remove the RAM stick and recover the EDL for us.

Fun times.

We are smelling a hint of smoke/burned insulation in our machine room. It's hard to pin point a particular piece of equipment or if this is coming from outside the machine room.  We have two unity media net 5s that seem to be where the scent is coming from but there is no visual indication and everything appears to be working.  Is there a particular part of the administrator/management software that we could check to see if there are any thermal sensors or indications of heat issues in the unitiys?

Where there's smoke there's Art, right?
