In a bin, Avid can do the same thing. create any custom column or columns, add whatever words you want. Sort or sift or find by those words, drag resulting grouping into a sequence to "auto assemble" your sequence. I was just trying to add the comments in the timeline itself. Avid doesn't find THIS comment text in FINDS or in the bin at all, so other than using for my aforementioned use of showing where you are (on what page) of a script, or, as Roger mentions, communicating with the on-line guy through the EDL, the feature doesn't help much.

Yes, X does this with Keyword and Smart Collections. Very powerful. You have a KW pop-up that gives you 9 default keywords that you create or you can make up as many as you want. Great for interview situations where each person might be asked the same question, and you can add clips to KW collections on the fly as you are watching the source as well as add multiple KW to clips for further refinement. These features along with sorting by Favorite or Reject options make logging and sifting clips very easy and accurate. Not sure if this is what Steve meant originally, but it certainly makes the initial edit of a project very efficient.
