ProRes should be part of the standard system install on Mac, I thought. If not you can get it with Compressor or Motion which are cheaper than FCP X.

From what I read just installing QTPro 7 upgrade isn't enough. Is this still true. Is it possible to install something other than FCPX to gain this functionality? Something like compressor or motion, do they come with the necessary bits to export ProRes? I have always installed my FCP 7 on new systems to avoid issues but I'm asking for a friend.
