In the MC environment, when going from Mac offline (OS X v10.7.4) on v6.5x and 7.x (Usually DNX 36) to a PC online w/7.04 Symphony (Windows 7). I see this fairly often, though not every time. Saw it on a PC online using Symphony 8.3 (Windows 7) a few weeks ago. My experience is that the shot usually moves off screen at a uniform speed and angle, dramatically. I had assumed it was a Mac to PC thing, but maybe the data saved in the stabilize effect isn't that stable (pun intended).
I am curious, John. Are your versions of AVID from offline to online different, or on different OSes? I could almost understand having to re-apply the effect going from SD to HD due to different raster sizes and possibly aspect changes, but I see this staying in the same raster, but different OSes and versions of AVID going from MC to Symphony.
I did a google search and found this issue being called out as early as July 2008, on MC v2.8.1. on the AVID forums.
Hopefully the folks at AVID are listening on this one...

I find stabilize effects from offline, especially from SD offlines, always have to be reapplied/retracked in Online, otherwise I get hops and bumps that go away when retracked/reapplied. Sometimes I have to retrack more than once to remove certain image artifacts from the Stabilize and sometimes I just have to remove the effect entirely as the artifacts are worse than the original shaky shot I figured it had to do with Raster size differences and probably resolution increase in online to make for a more refined fluid stabilizer tracking. If the offline was at DNX 36 it seems closer but I always redo them out of habit. Do others find that they have to retrack a stabilize after uprezzing?
