Absolutely experiencing the same thing. I'm on a two-year-old 17" MacBook Pro, running the same OS version and same MC version as you. Yep. It happens. Probably 80% of the time. It definitely happens. I've been playing with different scenarios to see if I can find a consistency: Source monitor? Record monitor? Clip? Sequence? Multiple video layers or not? But the result is the same crash you're getting. Frustrating.

I've been knee deep in a feature film and had to disconnect for a while.
I just got a new MacBookPro retina (a lovely gift from the film producers!), Yosemite 10.10.2, 16Gigs RAM and I installed Avid MC 8.3.0.
Whenever I attempt to go to Full Screen Mode (shift-command-F) Media Composer unceremoniously crashes. Anyone else experiencing this or have an idea why it might be happening?
