[Avid-L2] High quality resizing in Media Composer?

I have a rough cut that was created mostly from time-lapse GoPro image sequences, 4000x3000 resolution. (Think "House of Cards" opening title sequence.) I used After Effects to create 4000x3000 Quicktimes, 23.98, and did the rough cut in a 1920x1080 timeline. Because my main client has now switched from FCP 7 to MC 8, I decided to work in Media Composer using AMA (although this was my own project, for a school fundraiser, so I could have used any NLE.)

All went well in Media Composer, sort of. FrameFlex allowed the oversized 4:3 Quicktimes to drop right into my 1920x1080 timeline. Client has approved the rough cut, so today I started putting slight moves on the oversized scenes. Unfortunately, after rendering the resize effects (subtle zooms and repos), they looked horrible in full-screen playback on my Retina MacBook Pro, with noticeable aliasing on fine detail and diagonal lines. I'm working 23.98, have set all my render setting to the highest quality (trying both ProRes HQ and DNxHD 175x), and I set the Project Settings to Advanced (Polyphase).

I did a quick resize test of one of these scenes in FCP 7 and it looked beautiful playing back, even though I know FCP 7 is not the greatest for this. It occurred to me that this is a playback-only issue with Avid, so I exported Same-as-Source QTs from both MC and FCP. I was relieved to see that the export from MC looked pretty good, with no jagged lines, but it was not quite as sharp as FCP (though probably acceptable for its non-broadcast use). Any advice on tweaking my MC settings to get the highest-quality renders on resize effects?

Thanks -- Mark Block
