I just came across this nugget too, which covers the step by step registration/upgrade process fairly well. I'm sure some of us will fall between the cracks, as usual.
As I hear it now, you can upgrade the software product anytime you are ready, but the system ID must be entered at the website (registered with your support program activation code) before the end of the year. Can anyone confirm that deadline?

All simple. Just purchase the support contract for the system id. No need to upgrade or blast dongle until you want.
Download 8.3 and install. Then in app manager you can update dongle.
