As I continue end of year equipment investments I'm thinking the baselight plug in may need to go under my tree this year. I have Resolve and I realize it's very powerful and works for many people. The round tripping is the road bump that makes it less attractive to my world but that's just me. With Baselight it seems I can offer virtually the same level of color correction as Resolve but stay in Avid. I'll miss the relational color correction of symphony but won't have the headache of round tripping.
I'm curious how baselight works with an existing symphony style or media composer style color correction. If I were to grade in Avid then go to shots needing more elaborate color correction will the baselight plugin access the raw media or the already color corrected version from Avid? Or is there a choice. Also I'm not familiar with Baselight's activation scheme. If I buy a license for my home system could I deactivate that to then activate the plugin on another system I'm freelancing on? Any experience in the Baselight world will be appreciated.
