Re: [Avid-L2] OT - QC monkeys attacks again. Help!!!

Wow, seems I'm not alone in this one.
The only justification I could found was that as me and the QC guy are on PAL land, maybe he never had to know the very existence of 3:2 pull down. :-/
Believe me, I'm not talking about a little local TV channel here, this is one of the biggest multinational media company!
I'll try the personal approach, trying to explain them why there's no mistake, but it's not going to be an easy task. How come an insignificant editor will dare to challenge the "QC Coordinator" of a mega media corporation?

I'll let you know how it ends.
Wish me luck. ;)
Thank you for your support.

All the best.

Tell them to go get a VHS copy of Star Wars and scan through it field by field and they will see 2:3 pulldown in process.  Also send them these links

and then tell him to learn what his job is.  Of course they might me looking for 2:2:2:4 pulldown, which is lame.

I recently went to a film festival in Austin and saw a couple of films from Australia that instead of playing back just a fraction slow they dropped frames to keep the run time the same and it annoyed the crap out of me.

Hello everyone,
I'm delivering a down-converted 29.97i Sub-Master that I created from a 23.976 HD source. The SD file has proper and continuous 3:2 cadence and checked on a monitor looks as expected.
The problem is that the QC guy is not approving the SD file because it contains "Flash Frames" when he watch it field by field. Clearly the QC guy, nor the client understand how is the proper way to convert to 29.97i from a 23.976p source.

Before I start a long email trying to explain how and why 3:2 pull down exists and works, I'd like to confirm that there's no other way to do that frame rate conversion that I'm not aware of.

I can't imagine a conversion from 23.976 to 29.97 that doesn't includes "Flash Frames".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, I already feel better. The L-2 can be good for Catharsis ;)

All the best,
Agustin
