You have to split them up if you don't want editors deleting/importing media and making a mess of things... Just yesterday I was instructed to give one of our editors full access to all of our drives. 20 minutes later, one of my media drives started scanning because he tried to copy some files onto it. Stopped me down for 30 minutes while I was under a deadline.
