But there are 12bit cameras out there right? BM camera for example. Just not ones that shoot using 2020 colour space, is that what you mean? Would there be a benefit to using a 12 bit project for a 12 bit input even if that 12bit input was not in the same colour space? The bit depth would be retained and that would be a good thing right? There would just have to be a LUT applied? Say from 709 to 2020? Is that the idea?

They said this could and would easily be added. IIRC no camera to date records 12bit 2020.
