RE: [Avid-L2] Import vs. AMA & Transcode

We had a similar thing.. After the DNX transcode we offline edit and then retranscode the 4:4:4 to 1:1 RGB and we then saw the banding. We did the same process on another machine that seemed identical and it was fine so we never got to the bottom of it just worked around it.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Import vs. AMA & Transcode

I have new issue that’s cropped up with importing Arri footage into Avid (ProRes 4:4:4).

There is a long practiced workflow to AMA this footage into Avid Symphony v6.5.4 and then transcode to DNX.  A couple of projects went out for color or roto work and the problem was noticed.  I have tried to attach examples taken with a camera phone of the footage zoomed 400%.  What you will see is distinct vertical banding in the shot that was linked to vs. smooth edges for the one that was imported without AMA.  The transcoded version of the file “baked in” the banding seen in AMA.

It’s been reported to Avid support but wondering if anyone else has seen this “feature?”

It was reproduced in both versions 6.5.4 and 7.0.4 on PC with both of the two most recent Arri AMA Plug Ins.

Thanx,
