Color transformations (Color Adapters) were applied to the source media for preview purposes only, via the Source Settings window. This was done to work with the video looking closer to the final look. After picture lock we had to transcode the entire 90-minute sequence to DNxHD 175 x for the color grader, but without baking the color transformations.
If you Transcode via the Export AAF command and you check the Render Video Files option the transformations will be baked. That's not good for us. If you leave the Render Video Files option unchecked, they will appear in the transcoded clips but you can still remove them. Except that even after that, the AAF sequence will retain the information in the sequence as if it still had the source settings applied to the clips. So this approach is not good either.
If you Transcode via the Consolidate / Transcode command and deselect "Apply Color Transformation (compatibility mode)", the transcoded clips will retain the color transformations but will not be baked. One has to still remove them. One can select all the new clips in the bin, right click one and select Source Settings, delete the transformation from one and apply to all. Click OK. Then refresh the sequence to update it.
So in my opinion it is best to remove them before any transcode action. Do you agree?
Is there a more efficient way to remove the color transformations from all the clips of a sequence?
Color transformations and color adapters are the same thing, no? The former is applied to the source clip and the latter is the term used for the sequence clip. Right?
Thanks.
